Work Visa and Work Permit Applications and Renewals in Thailand

Trust the team with a 95% success rate obtaining employment authorization for expats in Thailand

Recognize challenges like these trying to hire expats in Thailand?

Strict regulations

We have to justify hiring an expat over a Thai national to authorities, and non-Thais are barred from many roles.

Bureaucracy

Multiple agencies oversee expat hires with extensive paperwork and processing times, delaying employee onboarding.

Inconsistency

Thai labor and immigration laws often change, so it’s difficult to track current requirements and ensure compliance.

Financial thresholds

We need to meet high capital requirements and minimum salaries to sponsor expat workers.

Thai worker quotas

Regulations require us to hire at least four locals for each expat, complicating our operations.

Renewals

Work permits expire annually, requiring continuous reporting and paperwork to avoid penalties.

You've found the solution.

FAQ

What is the difference between a work visa and a work permit in Thailand?

A work visa (e.g., Non-Immigrant B Visa) is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and allows a foreign national to enter Thailand for the purpose of employment.

The work permit is issued by either the Ministry of Labor or the Board of Investment (BOI) and legally authorizes the foreign national to work for a specific employer in Thailand.

Both a visa and a work permit are required to work legally in Thailand.

No, you must have a confirmed job offer from a Thai-registered company who will sponsor your work permit application.

The process is supposed to take 7–10 business days after the issuing of the work visa. However, delays are not uncommon depending on documentation requirements, company eligibility, and processing times. It’s essential to start as soon as possible and ensure all documentation is in order.

To sponsor an expat work permit in Thailand, a company needs THB 2 million of capital per foreign employee if it has Thai-majority ownership, or THB 3 million if it has foreign-majority ownership.

Minimum expat salaries vary by nationality and range from THB 25,000 to 50,000 per month. Higher salaries may be required for certain industries.

Yes, but it will void your current work permit and you must reapply under the new employer, as work permits are tied to a specific company and role.

If your work permit expires or is cancelled by your employer, you must stop working immediately. If your visa also expires, you need to leave Thailand within 24 hours or face overstay fines or legal penalties. It is therefore essential that expiration dates are carefully tracked. Renewals should be initiated at least 30 days before expiration.

No, Thailand does not officially recognize digital nomad visas, and working without a proper work permit can lead to fines, visa cancellations, or deportation.

Yes, your spouse and children can apply for a Dependent Visa (Non-Immigrant O Visa), but they cannot work unless they obtain their own work permit.

Yes. Expat employees can begin the application for Thai Permanent Residency after three consecutive years of work permit renewals and meeting salary and tax payment requirements.

Our visa and work permit application Thailand team includes both local experts in the regulatory landscape and long-term Thailand-based expats who understand the needs and motivations of international firms with employees in Thailand.
